TAMPA BAY, FL - The Soul continue their losing ways after getting beat by the Tampa Bay Storm, 49 - 63.
There was a lot that happened in this game, but here are my 3 observations from the Soul.
1. Soul's defense was non-existent: The Soul's defense just kept giving up touchdown after touchdown. The Storm scored 7 touchdowns off of their first 7 possessions. As expected, Storm's QB Randy Hippeard, WR Justin Hilton and WR Amarri Jackson played an outstanding game. Hippeard threw for a total of 276 yards and seven touchdowns. As for Hilton and Jackson, Hilton caught two touchdown passes and Jackson caught 3 along with 143 yards. However, the Soul did get a pick six in the 4th quarter by LB Joe Goosby. It was the Soul's first interception this season. This pleasant performance from the Storm most definitely played a big role in getting the win against Philadelphia.
2. Clint Dolezel was heated: Almost the entire game, Soul head coach Clint Dolezel was like an volcanic eruption. He was more upset with the WR corps like Tiger Jones who got called for unsportsmanlike conduct for a throat slashing gesture after he scored a TD. If coach Dolezel got this much upset, it means that the Soul as a unit need to adjust things fast because now they're 3 games behind first place in the division. (Cleveland win.) Clint Dolezel after the game,
“We have to play consistent football and we have failed to do that across the board,” said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel in a press release. “We need players to step up and perform the way we are used to. We will review the game and address the areas we need to in order to get this pointed in the right direction.”
3. Derrick Ross: Last week against San Jose, FB Derrick Ross limped off of the field before the end of the first half. The team later confirmed during the game that it was a hamstring injury. Soul Insider spoke with a player from team and the player said that Ross is fine and should be expected to play in week 4. Ross did in fact play this game, but the league leader in rushing, fumbled the ball in the first half and gave up a turnover. Ross ran the ball one time in this game and only for five yards. Not only did this show that he's not 100% healthy but the fact that he was limping all game. The Soul may look at signing another RB because you do not want to risk one of the best players on the team of being out for the rest of the season.
The Soul will stay in Florida for the next couple of days, then will travel to Orlando on Thursday for their week 5 matchup against the Predators.
