ORLANDO - Because of an impressive game from QB Dan Raudabaugh and a step up from the defense, the Soul came into CFE Arena to shock the Orlando Predators in a 69-56 win.
The Soul played without doubt, their best game as a team. They led the entire game and the defense didn't let the Predators' high-powered offense intimidate them.
Predators QB Jason Boltus was constantly taken apart by the Soul's improved defensive front that's led by defensive backs, Bryan Robinson, Teddy Jennings and Brandon Perkins. Boltus went 23/46, 348 yards, 6 touchdowns and 1 interception. A lot of Boltus' passes were broken up because of Soul's CB Rayshaun Kizer and DB Joe Goosby (defensive player of the game) who was the one to pick him off in the second quarter.
Soul's QB Dan Raudabaugh, who was Russell Athletic offensive player of the game, not only played excellent but set an unofficial Arena Football League record with a completion percentage of 90%. The previous record was set by his head coach, Clint Dolezel according to a press release. Raudabaugh went 20-22, 254 yards and threw six touchdowns.
Raudabaugh's great performance received support by his main WRs and running backs, Ryan McDaniel, WR Tiger Jones and FB Derrick Ross. McDaniel had 117 yards, and 3 touchdowns (2 pass, 1 rush) off of 9 receptions. Tiger Jones recorded 91 yards, and two touchdowns off of 8 receptions. FB Derrick Ross picked up 2 touchdowns, and 17 yards to add support to the offensive flow.
The Soul even threw in OL Wayne Tribue to receive a six yard reception for a touchdown.
The game quickly got more and more frustrating for the Predators to the point where it led to a fight between the players. WR Greg Carr, who was Boltus' main target, got ejected in the 4th quarter for throwing a punch at CB James Romain. Before ending his night, Carr had 154 yards, 4 touchdowns off of 7 receptions.
Dolezel released a statement about the Soul's win in a press release:
“We came together as a team tonight,” Soul head coach Clint Dolezel said. “I was pleased how we came out and played. There are a few things we still need to clean up, but this is the kind of effort that we are used to seeing on a consistent basis.”
The Soul will have a home opener next Saturday against the 1-2 Jacksonville Sharks with kickoff starting at 7:30pm ET. The Soul will carry a lot of momentum in front of their beloved Philadelphia crowd.
