PHILADELPHIA -The Soul shouldn't expect an easy matchup as they take on their division matchup, the Iowa Barnstormers on ESPN 2.
| Last time these two teams met in Philadelphia was last season. Philadelphia lead at the half, 27-6 and ended up winning the game, 54-30. The Soul are coming off of an impressive win against the Jacksonville Sharks last weekend, 54-41 with a great step up from the defense and an impressive outing from the WR unit. |
Iowa, on the other hand, kept the Los Angeles Kiss to just 12 points in their win last week. QB Carson Coffman recorded 211 yards and 3 touchdowns that may carry into this game.
If the Soul expects to be in a tie for 3rd place in their division from 4th, they should follow behind these 3 keys.
1. Attack early: One thing that has been working for the Soul these past two weeks were their ability to score early on in the game. Last week, the Soul jumped off to a quick 14-0 start against the Sharks that kept them on the winning side the entire game. If the Soul starts off with the ball and get a quick score, it can really make a difference to how the game is resulted.
2. Watch for WR Marco Thomas: Despite the improvement from the Soul's secondary, Iowa's WR Marco Thomas is a threat to opposing defenses. He currently leads the team with 43 receptions, 542 yards and 13 touchdowns. Not only is this a problem for defenses but for special teams as well. On kickoff returns, he has 157 yards of of 10 touches. (A team leader).
3. Kizer and Romain need a big game: In addition to WR Marco Thomas being a threat, the Barnstormers also have WR Darius Reynolds. Reynolds is ranked second on the team with 30 receptions, 382 yards and 8 touchdowns. Both wide receivers will provide a huge test to Soul's DBs James Romain and Rayshaun Kizer. The Soul's defense will also be in a bunch going up against a QB like Carson Coffman. Coffman is ranked third in the league in total offense. Coffman averages 276.6 yards per game, currently has 23 touchdowns and 5 interceptions this season.
If the Soul are able to keep Iowa off of their feet for majority of the game and Raudabaugh mirrors his performance from the game against Orlando weeks ago, they'll be in good shape to win this game. Soul Insider is picking the Soul to win. 35-21.
