Shaw, All Arena, spoke to Soul Insider on Friday to discuss the transition from San Antonio to Philadelphia.
"The difficult part of moving is my little girl." Shaw told Soul Insider. "Other than that, the change is good."
Shaw understands that this is a business and is ready to move forward.
"I loved playing ball with my teammates in SA." Shaw said. "But I know this is a business and i'm up for the challenge."
GM Tom Goodhines spoke to Soul Insider briefly after the acquisition of Fred Shaw.
"Any time you get an All Arena player you're always happy." Goodhines said.
In a statement released earlier this week, head coach Clint Dolezel said that Shaw is a "versatile" athlete.
“We had the opportunity to get some talent in an area of need and we jumped on it,” Dolezel said in a statement. “Fred is a versatile athlete who has a proven track record in the AFL. We are excited to get him here to give us a lift in our secondary.”
Shaw responded to Dolezel's compliment and agrees that he can help out in an area where the Soul have been improving in.
"He's right." (Versatile athlete.) Shaw said. "I feel like I can help on all levels." "My thing is; every time I get on the field, I have in my head that if the ball comes my way, i'll do whatever it takes to give the offense the ball back."
Throughout his five year career (SA), Shaw racked up 350 total tackles, 27 interceptions, and 17 pass breakups. So far this season, he has 22 tackles, and 1 pass breakup with the Talons.
This was a great move by the Soul because of their inconsistency on defense. Although they are improving with a great step up by the pass defense last week, there were still times when Predators QB Jason Boltus threw several deep touchdown passes.
